Raymond West is seeking an entry‑level Shop Technician to join the Service Department. The role involves repairing and servicing customer equipment, communicating with customers and peers, and promoting the company while ensuring profitability through direct labor billing.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain alertness and safe work practices.
- Repair all types of equipment sold and serviced by the company.
- Continuously update training and skills.
- Train other employees as needed.
- Maintain a profitable billing level.
- Follow all Shop Service Department procedures.
- Complete paperwork transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate all options to the Shop Supervisor before proceeding with work.
- Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable.
- Have the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Represent the entire company at all times.
- Pass Raymond Certification and re‑certification when applicable.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the company’s insurance company, if applicable.
- Report all accidents, whether self or customer.
- Account for 100% of available time during working hours.
- Be willing to work overtime when necessary.
- Follow procedures in the company’s Employee Handbook.
- Follow safety procedures and use good judgment regarding safety.
- Will work out of town as necessary.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Shop Service Foreman or Managers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Speak effectively before customer or employee groups.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees, co‑workers, and managers in other departments.
- Work off‑hours as specific needs dictate and assume additional responsibilities as required.
- Exhibit professional behavior at all times.
- Follow mandates and procedures of the Shop Service Department.
- Self‑starter.
- Interact face‑to‑face with customers as needed.
- Work effectively with fellow technicians and workers.
- Apply good organizational skills.
- Pass all applicable certificates.
- Knowledge of basic DC and AC electricity, SCR, transistor, microprocessor, guide, internal combustion, and diesel engines.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Mechanical abilities.
- Organize efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed.
- Quick learner and accurate, flexible performer.
- Motivated for continuous self‑development and training.
- Assume additional responsibility when required.
- High‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent (required).
- Two years of breakdown experience or comparable service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- Potential company vehicle use; must be insurable by Raymond West.
The workplace is non‑sedentary and may require visual acuity, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, use of hands and arms, occasional smelling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, exposure to weather, electrical shock, wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, vibration, and a sometimes loud environment.
Pay Range- The hourly range for this position is $21.40 – $47.15, based on experience, education, and location.
