Overview
Facility Maintenance Mechanics perform preventive maintenance and repair on material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems. They also maintain and repair general building infrastructure—including pallet racking, overhead doors, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and electrical equipment—as well as a wide variety of industrial equipment such as sweepers, scrubbers, bailers, pallet sorters, dock levelers, carts, cranes, and dollies. Mechanics may also work on compressors, ammonia refrigeration equipment, and industrial batteries, perform light remodeling, carpentry, painting, move office furniture, and assist outside contractors.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance and repair on material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyor systems).
- Maintain and repair general building infrastructure (pallet racking, overhead doors, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, electrical).
- Repair industrial equipment (sweepers, scrubbers, bailers, pallet sorters, dock levelers, carts, cranes, dollies).
- Perform maintenance on compressors, ammonia refrigeration systems, and industrial batteries.
- Conduct light remodeling, carpentry, painting, and move office furniture as required.
- Inspect equipment and building infrastructure on a scheduled basis to identify potential failures and downtime causes.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems using advanced skills and techniques.
- Complete work orders and change job assignments as needed.
- Manage time effectively to maximize output and collaborate with other Mechanics to ensure safe and efficient operations with minimal downtime.
- Assist with work performed by outside contractors when assigned.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Experience and training in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of material handling equipment, conveyors, and general facilities is preferred.
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is preferred but not required.
- Provide and use personal basic tools and a locking toolbox; specialized tools are supplied by the company.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, twist, and turn frequently.
- Perform repetitive motions with shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands while operating equipment and performing service procedures.
- Manual dexterity, coordination, and good balance to work at ground level and at various heights.
- Operate maintenance related power equipment, hand tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, scissor lifts, sweepers, scrubbers, and diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
- Learn and follow Company and Distribution Center policies regarding safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, maintenance equipment, and hand tools.
- Follow Distribution Center policies and procedures related to Purchase Orders, Parts Requisition s, Inventory, and Maintenance Orders.
- Read and comprehend all labeling on hazardous materials and equipment in the facility.
- Understand potential exposures to high voltage, welding equipment, lubricants, solvents, and normal warehouse noise levels.
