About This Role

Fiber Tel is looking for Travel CDL Construction Worker/Laborers for our Portland location. This is a travel position with job sites in OR, WA, and  this role, you will support all phases of utility construction for various types of telecom projects. Duties include general labor related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor. Services may include placing poles, anchors, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, conventional and directional boring, placing underground conduit systems, performing inside wiring, cabling, testing, and maintenance services.

Pay: $20-27/hr, plus daily per diem and travel accommodations.

Responsibilities
  • Hand dig using a shovel and mechanical tools.
  • Installation and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling.
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Work in congested or remote areas.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Perform general construction work under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Learn all aspects of crew and assist the operator and foreman as assigned.
  • Set up, prepare, and clean up construction sites.
  • Develop an understanding of buried utilities.
  • Lift heavy equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • Good driving record required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus; higher wage scales apply to CDL holders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • Able to perform all duties in telecommunication construction.
  • Ability to travel.
Working Conditions

This full‑time hourly position requires at least 40 hours per week. It is performed outdoors and includes exposure to weather conditions such as extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. Work environments vary over terrain, traffic, urban and rural settings. The position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and risk of electrical shock and moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee must stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours). The job requires tolerance of extreme weather, speaking and hearing safety instructions, repeated lifting (up to 75 pounds), climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.
