Position Overview

The Fleet Mechanic II is a senior‑level role responsible for leading advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and major overhauls on vehicles and equipment used in solid waste operations. This position involves mentoring junior mechanics, overseeing repair projects, and ensuring the fleet operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulations. The Mechanic II serves as a technical expert and a key contributor to fleet reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advanced Diagnostics and Repairs:
    • Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, electrical systems, and electronic control modules (ECMs).
    • Lead major overhauls and rebuilds of diesel engines, heavy equipment, and specialized vehicles.
    • Troubleshoot advanced mechanical and electronic issues using state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic tools.
  • Leadership and Oversight:
    • Serve as a technical expert, providing guidance and support to PM Technicians, Technician I’s.
    • Lead repair teams on large‑scale or time‑sensitive projects.
    • Ensure work is completed efficiently and to high‑quality standards.
  • Preventative Maintenance Program:
    • Assist in developing and improving preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
    • Ensure fleet equipment remains in optimal working condition and minimizes downtime.
    • Conduct detailed inspections to identify potential issues before they escalated.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with company safety protocols, OSHA standards, and DOT regulations.
    • Conduct safety inspections and maintain detailed documentation of fleet compliance.
    • Proactively identify and resolve potential safety hazards.
  • Training and Development:
    • Mentor junior mechanics by providing hands‑on training and technical instruction.
    • Assist in the onboarding and skills development of new team members.
    • Recommend training programs and certifications for team improvement.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts usage in fleet management software.
    • Provide detailed reports on equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacements.
    • Collaborate with management to plan and prioritize repair schedules.
