At Terwilliger Plaza, located in downtown Portland, we are looking for a Lead Painter to perform painting, finishing and maintaining interior and exterior surfaces and structures.

- Paint and maintain aesthetics of Terwilliger Plaza as directed by Facilities management.
- Maintain a painting program to meet the developing needs of the Plaza.
- Apply paint to surfaces including walls, doors, ceilings and trim.
- Match, and apply paint, enamel, stain and other finishes.
- Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
- Select and buy paint from vendors.
Apply several coats according to paint directions. - Cleanup all equipment, including brushes and rollers and work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Years of
Experience:
3-5 years of experience as a painter in various settings, including residential, commercial, industrial and facilities operations. Experience in both interior and exterior painting is a plus.
- Knowledge of residential and commercial/industrial practices and processes of the painting trade; paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, paint removers, and related materials; applicable code requirements’ methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; occupational hazards of the painting trade and precautionary measures to be observed.
- Ability to:
Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; match paints and apply finishes to a wide variety of surfaces; estimate time and materials required on widely varied assignments; keep computerized records and prepare reports; perform heavy physical labor; coordinate workflow to multiple projects; read, comprehend, and work from plans and blueprints; give oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative working relationships;
demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
High school education or general education degree (GED) or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work.
Physical Activities of the PositionMust be able to perform physical activities such as lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking; must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades; must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards. Candidates must possess the ability to ascend ladders measuring 4 feet, 8 feet, and 16 feet in height.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to set and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud. Subject to inside environmental conditions including heated pool area. May be subject to infectious waste, disease conditions including TB, Hepatitis B, AIDS virus.
