Overview

The Maintenance Technician II performs highly skilled mechanical and electrical work in the maintenance and repair of light to medium duty packaging, processing and building equipment such as conveyors, elevators, blowers, sifters, burners, grinders, conventional & high speed packaging machines, labeling/printing equipment, vacuum & hydraulic pumps, forklifts and air compressors. Works independently or with minimal supervision applying mechanical/electrical knowledge and considerable independent judgment in the repair, overhaul and remanufacturing of plant equipment.

Duties include troubleshooting and performance testing of production machinery, parts requisitioning/ordering and preventive maintenance/work order assignments.

Assignments are made orally or in writing; work is reviewed through observation of results obtained, conferences and periodic reports or evaluations. An employee in this classification will qualify for advancement to open tiers after 320 hours of work in the M2 classification.

SHIFT:
Second Shift (Swing Shift) – Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair and perform overhaul on mechanical drives/motors, pneumatic & hydraulic components, motor control center devices, transport conveyor systems and rotating, cutting & grinding equipment.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and other precision instruments to determine working clearances on mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor control centers, electro‑mechanical drives and sub‑electrical panels utilizing volt and amp meters.
  • Perform typical building maintenance repairs through assigned work orders.
  • Perform machine shop duties such as general metal fabrication, welding and machining.
  • Requisition shop supplies and equipment such as replacement parts, hardware, lubricants, tools, testing instruments and gauges.
  • Comply with Safe Quality Food 2000 Code (SQF 2000 Code).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or possession of a G.E.D. Certificate.
  • 5+ years of journeyman level experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
  • Passing grade of 70 or higher on the M2 Skills Assessment.
  • APPICABLE TRAINING AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS: HCCS Courses: COMT 1351, 1355, 1356 & 1360, CMBT 1302 & 1445, CSCI 1170, ELEC 1341 & 1343, MATH 0105 & 0306, MCHN 1237 & 1238, WLDG 1421 or equivalent college/trade school courses.
Personal & Professional Skill Sets
  • Knowledge of the principles of electronic, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic/vacuum systems and components found in industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and inspection techniques of repairing and operating equipment in the industrial industry.
  • Skilled in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments that are used in the repair and overhaul of plant equipment and building services.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of equipment operating principle to diagnose and correct malfunctions in plant equipment.
  • Ability to use knowledge, creativity and initiative in recommending or implementing improvements in servicing methods, tools and equipment.
  • Ability to use manuals and schematics in servicing equipment.
  • Ability to endure long periods of standing, walking or working in inclement weather and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions on equipment operating principles through illustration and verbal communication.
