A leading Pacific Northwest shipyard is seeking an experienced Marine Joiner / Finish Carpenter / Marine Woodworker to join their skilled team. The Marine Joiner is responsible for building and installing high-quality custom wood interiors aboard commercial vessels. This position combines traditional finish carpentry skills with marine fabrication, requiring attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to adapt to unique project requirements. You will work on:
- Custom cabinetry
- Interior finishes
- Pilot houses
- Wheelhouses
- Crew accommodations
- Specialty marine woodworking projects
You will collaborate with experienced shipyard professionals across multiple trades to complete high-quality vessel construction and repair projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and install custom cabinetry, furniture, and interior wood components
- Fabricate and install wall panels, ceiling systems, trim, moldings, shelving, and countertops
- Perform detailed finish carpentry throughout vessel interiors
- Construct and install components for pilot houses, wheelhouses, and crew spaces
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications
- Take accurate measurements and perform detailed layouts
- Modify and fabricate components to fit unique vessel structures
- Safely operate woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools
- Work alongside welders, fabricators, electricians, painters, and project managers
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment
- Deliver quality craftsmanship that meets project standards
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in finish carpentry, cabinetmaking, woodworking, or millwork
- Strong background in custom fabrication and installation
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings
- Excellent measuring, layout, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Preferred experience:
- Marine joinery
- Shipyard environments
- Boat building or yacht interiors
- Commercial vessel construction or repair
- Architectural millwork
- Custom cabinetry
- High-end residential or commercial finish carpentry
- Working around steel fabrication environments
- Additional certifications such as OSHA 10/30, forklift, or aerial lift are a plus.
Work environment:
- Work aboard commercial vessels, fabrication shops, and industrial environments
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools
- Comfortable working in varying conditions, including confined spaces and outdoor environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, climbing, and kneeling
