The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repairs of the community property they support. This position receives and responds to maintenance requests from residents and the Community Maintenance Manager. They are also tasked with performing pest control and inspections and preventative maintenance and repair in commercial, residential, and housing projects. Additionally, they identify necessary maintenance to ensure the safety and appearance of the property and oversee the completion of repairs.

A successful applicant for the Maintenance Technician position should demonstrate reliability and a strong sense of personal duty, taking pride in their work. They must possess a solid understanding of policies and processes, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines. This role requires individuals who are committed to work quality and are motivated to contribute positively to the community.

Program:
The Butte is a three-story apartment building located in the Old Town neighborhood of downtown Portland. Most units are single-room occupancy with Section 8 rental assistance (tenants pay a portion of rent) and shared bathroom facilities. There is one studio unit without rent assistance.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, (Saturday and Sundays off)

Location:

The Butte, 610 NW Davis St, Portland

Compensation: $26.61/hr - $35.31/hr, final comp will be determined based on relevant experience, education, credentials/licensure, and internal equity. External candidates:
Offer max $30.88/hr per our Union contract.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years building maintenance or rehabilitation experience.
  • Must possess or obtain certification in Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) and Lead-based Paint Activities by Oregon Health Authority (OHA) within 30 days of start date and must submit proof of certification to HR within 30 days of start date.
  • Must have strong trouble shooting skills in all aspects of building maintenance including but not limited to locksmith, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing and flooring.
  • Must possess a current driver's license, pass a DMV background check and be designated an "acceptable" driver as outlined in Central City Concern's Fleet Safety Policy. Must pass an initial drivers training within 60 days of being an approved driver and continued recertification training.
  • Must be able to work in environmental conditions including weather, dust, dirt, fumes, and smoke.
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concern's drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance or alcohol.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, pull, reach and lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and ability to climb stairs several times a day with reasonable or no accommodation.
  • Must adhere to agency's non-discrimination policies.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of pest control practices, specifically on Bed Bugs.
  • Have an active Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators Apprentice License (pay differential of 1.5% with active license).
