Description

The Marine Electrician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the electrical aspects of the Company's tugs, barges, and facility equipment. The position is also responsible for the research, design, development, testing, or supervision of the installation of electrical equipment, components, and systems across the Company's fleet.

Hourly Rate – $36.25 – $46.60

Reports to – Port Engineer, VP of Engineering

Direct Reports – None (may direct the work of contractors, helpers, or junior technicians as assigned)

• Performs maintenance on generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, and alarm and lighting circuits.
• Assists in the establishment of preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems and facilities.
• In conjunction with supervisors, plans and schedules work to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing for subsequent performance of duties.
• Troubleshoots electrical equipment and circuits using test equipment to detect and effect repairs or replacement requirements.
• Wires and connects electrical systems, completing circuitry and testing systems using ohmmeters, voltmeters, and other electrical testing equipment.
• Interprets schematics, manufacturers' specifications, and written and verbal instructions.
• Coordinates with manufacturers on installation requirements for new electrical systems onboard vessels.
• Uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
• Observes, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources.
• Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Identifies the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down data into separate parts.
• Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

• Must have relevant experience in the marine industry or performing work of comparable characteristics, with a working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits.
• Advanced knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory.
• Advanced knowledge of grounding in marine applications.
• Ability to direct the work of contractors, helpers, or junior technicians as assigned.
• Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
