Tek One Solutions is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Repair Technician / Fiber Splicer for a high-availability network environment in Portland, Oregon.
This role focuses on fiber repair, restoration, fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of critical optical infrastructure. We are looking for a highly skilled technician who can diagnose fiber faults, perform clean repairs, interpret test results, and work confidently around live network infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Perform fiber optic fault isolation, repair, and service restoration
- Fusion splice single-mode, multimode, and ribbon fiber
- Perform emergency restoration and planned maintenance
- Prepare fiber cables including stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, and protection
- Work within splice cases, ODFs, and fiber distribution environments
- Test and troubleshoot fiber using:
- OTDR
- OLTS
- Optical power meters
- VFL
- Fiber identifiers
- Inspection microscopes/scopes
- Interpret OTDR traces, loss readings, reflectance, and event tables
- Identify breaks, micro bends, connector faults, and other fiber issues
- Perform post-repair testing and verification
- Document repairs, test results, and maintenance activities
- Troubleshoot recurring fiber issues and assist with root-cause analysis
- Coordinate restoration activity with field teams and network personnel
- Maintain strict safety, quality, and cleanliness standards
- Participate in emergency response and on-call support as required
- 5+ years of fiber optic splicing, repair, testing, or restoration experience
- Strong fusion splicing experience
- Experience with ribbon and mass fusion splicing
- Ability to interpret OTDR traces and troubleshoot optical loss
- Experience with OS1/OS2 and OM3/OM4/OM5 fiber
- Familiarity with LC, SC, MPO, and MTP connectors
- Experience with high-count fiber systems such as 864- and 1728-count
- Experience working with both ISP and OSP fiber infrastructure
- Knowledge of Layer 1 infrastructure and optical signal paths
- Ability to work independently during critical repair situations
- Backbone, metro, enterprise, or mission-critical optical network experience
- Data center or large enterprise structured cabling experience
- Root-cause and failure analysis
- Digital fiber management or ticketing systems
- BICSI, FOA, or related fiber certifications
Candidates should be familiar with:
- PPE requirements
- Lockout/Tagout procedures
- Fiber handling and disposal practices
- Industry standards including TIA/EIA, NEC, BICSI, FOA, and related fiber standards
