Classification: Full-time, 1.0 FTE

Location: Portland, OR

Compensation: $22.57 per hour

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position will be responsible for supporting the Youth Empowerment and Violence Prevention (YEVP) Manager, and Family Care Manager to achieve program outcomes while utilizing the Community Initiative Healing program model. The CHI Adult mentor will provide mentoring services to Latino males ages 18 – 30 years, who may have previous or current gang involvement, be gang affected, have committed felonies, misdemeanors, and are at high risk of re-offending.

The CHI Adult Mentor will work with clients, their family, and other service providers and professionals to ensure client success and connection to services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with Program Manager, and Family Care Manager to ensure team alignment to La Cultura Cura:
    Joven Noble Curriculum, “A Rites of Passage, Character Development Model”
  • Assist in implementation of La Cultura Cura curriculum:
    Raising Children With Pride and other related curriculums.
  • Collaborates effectively with partner agencies, and Multnomah County Department of Community Justice staff.
  • Utilizes Community Healing Initiative Model when working with clients.
  • Meet weekly with clients through one-on-one mentoring, support groups, or pro-social activities. Engage clients in community connection, life skills workshops, educational achievement, employment, and goal setting.
  • Work with Care Manager to provide wraparound services to clients and their families. Engages with and builds meaningful relationships with clients through a strengths based, trauma informed, and culturally specific lens.
  • Provides services to clients in areas such as: positive identity, health, employment and education, behavior management, parent education, life skills, healthy relationships, and finance. Understands or is familiar with the issues of substance abuse, mental health, trauma, abuse and adolescent development including brain development.
  • Knowledge of culturally based world view, adaptive reasoning, and problem-solving practices of Latino individuals, families, and communities in urban neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity.
  • Advocates for the needs of clients and their families.
  • Communicates effectively with law enforcement, probation and parole officers. Meet regularly with the Family Care Manager for case consultation.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Complete and submit monthly service reports outlining activities and client goal progress. Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Enter case notes into Latino Network case management system.

REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in social work working with youth and families in the target population, OR a combination of education and relevant experience with youth and families in the target population may be considered.
