Healthy Families—a free, voluntary program—works closely with parents of newborns through a series of home visits. Families are enrolled before the babies are 3 months old. The goals of Healthy Families are to promote positive parent-child relationships, to support healthy childhood growth and development, and to enhance family functioning by teaching parents to identify strengths and utilize problem-solving skills to improve the family support system through linkages and referrals to available community services.

We provide information on child development and infant care, free screenings to make sure each baby is healthy, and connections to supportive services in their community.

We are currently looking for a Bilingual Spanish Family Support Specialist to promote positive parent-child relationships, support healthy childhood growth and development, and enhance family functioning for families with newborns in Multnomah County through home visiting.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Deliver parent and child education services in home visit settings to parents and their babies 0-3 years of age according to families' individual goal plans, families' needs, developmental stage of baby, and using a variety of curriculum.
  • Work with families, supervisor, and Healthy Families team to promote positive parent-child relationships, support healthy growth and development, enhance problem-solving skills and improve support systems.
  • Effectively work with families and individuals of diverse backgrounds (including teen parents; families with mental health, substance use, or domestic violence concerns; families experiencing poverty).
  • Maintain accurate, legible, timely documentation detailing contact and progress of families.
  • Complete on-going evaluation documentation and assessments for each family in accordance with Healthy Families standards and requirements.
  • Connect families with community resources and support self-advocacy across systems.
  • Encourage and facilitate family participation in program and community activities.
  • Serve as a cohesive member of the team, participate in problem solving and promote innovation.
  • Provide support and development opportunities to new staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Meet weekly for 1.5 hours with supervisor for supervision.
  • Fulfill all training and evaluation requirements as established by Healthy Families standards and Impact NW.
