Are you a motivated community corrections professional or social counselor who is a force for positive change in a fast‑paced environment? Do you share our vision of community safety through positive change? Whether you are a counselor with no law‑enforcement experience or a sworn officer with no counseling experience, we can train you. As a Sworn Parole and Probation Officer (PPO) with Multnomah County’s Department of Community Justice (DCJ), you will help clients develop pro‑social behaviors using core correctional practices, cognitive interventions, and behavioral strategies to promote accountability and lasting behavior change.

You will have the autonomy and discretion to manage your workload and schedule to meet client needs. This role requires genuine curiosity, continuous feedback, the ability to make arrests, flexibility, and a willingness to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

• Use evidence‑based practices such as EPICS, Motivational Interviewing, and cognitive behavioral interventions to support client development.
• Conduct field investigations, gather and verify facts, and utilize crisis prevention, intervention, and de‑escalation skills.
• Make arrests in accordance with departmental rules and procedures, coordinate and transport as necessary.
• Prepare accurate, well‑written reports and documents for courts, treatment agencies, and other stakeholders within tight timelines.
• Organize and prioritize workload, work independently and as part of a team, and develop innovative solutions to manage caseloads efficiently.
• Communicate respectfully and adapt style for diverse audiences, ensuring professional interaction with clients, community partners, and colleagues.

• Sworn Peace Officer able to pass DPSST certification within 18 months of hire; must not have mandatory disqualifying events.
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, administration of justice, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Six months of relevant experience in social counseling, case management, community corrections, law enforcement, or corrections.
• American citizen or in process of finalizing citizenship within 18 months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a physical examination, psychological evaluation, and complete a thorough background investigation.

• Experience in social counseling, including case management and community supervision.
• Experience in law enforcement, including corrections.
• Current or recent (within 2.5 years) Parole/Probation officer certification by DPSST.
• Demonstrated transferable skills relevant to the position.
