Brief Position
Description:
The Recreation Services Coordinator is the program's primary position responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing the recreational activities offered to our residential clients through our treatment program. The recreation services are aimed at exposing clients to a wide variety of recreational activities, both spectator- and participant-oriented. These include trips to area museums, theaters, music performances, professional and college sporting and performance events, pottery painting, kayaking, bowling, rock climbing, hiking, fishing;
as well as longer-term commitments such as a summer softball league and winter/spring basketball league. In addition, the position contributes to a host of other direct-service and advocacy offerings, including group facilitation, basic service coordination and case management.
- 8:00a-8:30a:
Recreation Services Coordinator arrives to service and meets with the Assistant Program Director to prepare for co-facilitating the Mindfulness group. The APD is a former JV and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor with 19 years experience in social services. - 8:30a-9:50a:
Co-facilitate Mindfulness. This is an interactive group with 10-15 clients. - 10:00a-11:20a:
Co-facilitate a peer Process Group with Counselor Stephanie Pozuelos. Stephanie, a dual language clinician and graduate of PSU's School of Social Work has 6 years of work experience in the field. - 11:30a-12:30p: break time and time to eat lunch in the MRC dining room. The daily lunch is an opportunity for staff and clients to gather in a casual, social atmosphere.
- 12:30p-1:15p:
Meet with the MRC's Residential Treatment Supervisor for supervision. The RTS has an open, social services-driven supervision style. This emphasizes supervision and growth as something that takes place in both structured supervision time and out in the field. As a result, the RTS seeks to serve alongside the Coordinator to address both theoretical and actual situations that arise within the scope of their service.
In addition to the program expectations of the position, the RTS encourages the Coordinator to develop specific goals to strive towards throughout their service year. These goals relate specifically to the Ameri Corps Capacity Building projects driven…
