Overview
Portland Parks & Recreation is looking for team-oriented, enthusiastic, and qualified staff to operate our 4 year-round indoor and 7 summer outdoor swimming pools. This is a great opportunity to learn leadership skills and help others stay safe and enjoy being in the pool. All staff are expected to convey good public relations and follow established policies and procedures for a safe, fun, and efficient operation of the City Pools.
About the roles are varied and include Recreation Associates, Recreation Leaders - PT/Seasonal, and Parks Activities Specialists. Compensation and union status vary by role.
Responsibilities- Operate and assist with pool facilities in a safe, welcoming, and efficient manner.
- Follow policies and procedures to ensure safety, cleanliness, and positive guest experiences.
- Engage with the public and provide assistance as needed to support recreational programs.
- Applicants must have or be in the process of obtaining at least one of the following certifications:
- Star Guard Lifeguard Certification (for Lifeguard and Dual Certification jobs)
- Portland Parks & Recreation Swim Instructor Certification (for Swim Instructor and Dual Certification jobs)
- Portland Parks & Recreation Water Fitness Instructor Certification and/or AEA/Equivalent certification (for Water Fitness Instructor jobs)
- Ability to work varied hours including days, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Recreation Associate: starting wage $21.99/hour
- Recreation Leader - PT/Seasonal: starting wage $19.54/hour
- Parks Activities Specialist: $24.33/hour - $37.55/hour
- Location flexibility across Portland, OR with multiple locations to choose from
- Part-time, casual postings; schedule varies with program needs
- Recreation Associate, Recreation Leader, and Parks Activities Specialist positions have different union representations. Some roles are not represented by a union.
