Centennial School District 28J is hiring four part‑time Pupil Transportation Van/Type 10 Vehicle Drivers to serve students in Portland, Oregon. Positions begin immediately or on July 13, 2026, and employment will be for 198 days per year (July – June) with 4 hours per day.

Transport students to and from school and school‑related activities, both within and outside the district, using vans and other Type 10 vehicles approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation or Education.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily pre‑trip inspections of vehicle fluid levels, lights, brakes, and overall condition; make adjustments and report issues.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment for students through effective management techniques.
- Safely drive assigned routes, loading and unloading students at predetermined stops, ensuring timely arrival.
- Maintain discipline on the vehicle, issuing referrals for behavioral problems and reporting critical incidents.
- Assist special‑needs students, including wheelchair lift use, monitor well‑being, and report to parents and teachers.
- Develop routes and stops based on student locations and destinations.
- Drive on activity runs that may include unfamiliar roads, mountain driving, freeway, extended trips, night driving, and congested traffic.
- Maintain detailed records of student counts, drop‑off points, route times, inspections, odometer readings, and disciplinary actions.
- Notify mechanics and supervisors of mechanical problems.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Transportation Department.
- Experience: Sufficient driving experience with large vehicles and transporting multiple passengers, including individuals with special physical needs.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to understand vehicle laws and district transportation policies.

Required or ability to obtain a valid license for operating a Type 10 vehicle; first aid and CPR certification. - Background Check: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant pays upon offer).
- Physical stamina, good vision and hearing; ability to lift, bend, and operate in inclement weather and exposure to bodily fluids as required by the role.
- Second‑language proficiency preferred.

- Safe operation of special‑needs equipped vehicles in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Drive long‑distance trips safely and navigate unfamiliar areas.
- Build rapport with students and maintain discipline during transport.
- Respond promptly to physical and emotional needs of students with disabilities.
- Make sound independent decisions in emergencies.
- Knowledge of traffic signs, safe driving techniques, maps, first aid, and CPR.
- Apply laws, rules, and regulations related to vehicle operation, loading/unloading, and discipline.
- Write clear, concise reports and maintain effective relationships with coworkers.
Salary and work year are determined by the Board. Performance will be evaluated annually per the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
