**** A day in the life:
*** Monitor transportation system conditions, radio communications and weather conditions.
* Implement incident and weather related response plans.
* Receive, input and notify crews about maintenance or repairs.
* Implement detour routes, including dispatching of staff and equipment.
* Review and maintain familiarity with statewide and regional standard operating guidelines, emergency operations plans and TOC systems.
* May be restricted to a workstation for long periods, sometimes in a close working area. Subject to noise levels caused by equipment and radio transmissions.
* May be required to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work day shift, swing shift, flexible shifts, alternating shifts, nights and weekends.
* Maintain continual and consistent alertness and attention to monitoring an answering a variety of technical equipment including a multi-line phone system and a multichannel radio system.
* Routine exposure to multiple conflicting priorities that sometimes involve life threatening decisions and communicating with the public, often under confusing or crisis conditions.
