Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance, Utility Technician
Under the supervision of the Utilities Supervisor, this full‑time position performs, assists in, and is responsible for, the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position operates equipment such as pumps, air compressors, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, forklifts, and other water/wastewater related equipment. Other duties may be assigned. This position is included in the departments after hours and weekend stand‑by rotation.
This position requires strenuous physical exertion, and applicants must be able to carry a minimum of 100 pounds. The positions require work outdoors and in occasional extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather. These positions are considered essential, and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm or disaster.
This position is subject to the City of Portland’s Background Investigation and Drug Testing Policy. New hires are required to provide proof of identity and legal authority to work in the United States per Federal law.

QualificationsApplicants must pass a physical examination, drug screening, and background check. High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s Class C License is required.
