Description

We’re looking for a Sr Software Engineer to join our Software Delivery organization and help evolve the internal platforms and integrations that power software delivery across Liberty Mutual. In this role, you’ll build backend services, APIs, automations, and event-driven systems that enhance the developer experience and extend our engineering ecosystem.

This is a hybrid role requiring two days in the office a week in one of our five tech hubs (Boston, Portsmouth, Plano, Indianapolis, or Columbus).

The Platform Ecosystems team is responsible for the core software delivery platforms and integrations that thousands of engineers rely on every day across Liberty Mutual. We build, operate, and evolve the developer tooling ecosystem that powers software delivery at enterprise scale. The team supports a large-scale eventing platform responsible for processing approximately 1.7 million daily events that enable downstream engineering and operational workflows.

This role offers the opportunity to influence how thousands of engineers build, ship, and operate software across the enterprise.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you will help enhance the developer experience through automation, integrations, API development, and event-driven architecture.

Responsibilities
  • Platform Services Engineering:
Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and automation that power and extend the internal software delivery platform.
  • Core Platform Ownership:
Engineer and enhance integrations, automation, access patterns, and operation of core software delivery SaaS platforms.
  • Event-Driven Workflows:
Design and support event-driven workflows using AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, and Kafka.
  • Integration & Automation:
Develop integrations, wrapper APIs, and service layers that extend vendor tooling and reduce manual operational effort.
  • Platform Reliability:
Ensure the reliability, observability, and scalability of platform services through proactive design and operational excellence.
  • Cross-Team

    Collaboration:

Partner across engineering teams to integrate platform capabilities into delivery workflows and improve the overall developer experience.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, Dev Ops, or platform engineering roles.
  • Hands‑on experience working with cloud‑based developer platforms and CI/CD tools.
  • Proven track record of building automation and integrations across vendor platforms.
  • Experience working in cross‑functional teams and collaborating across engineering squads.
Skills
  • Programming

    Languages:

Proficiency in Python and/or Type Script/JavaScript.
  • Developer Tools:
Familiarity with source code management systems, artifact repositories, static analysis tools, and collaboration platforms.
  • API Development & Security:
Experience designing and developing backend APIs, including securing APIs using SAML and OIDC.
  • Infrastructure:
Knowledge of certificate management, SSO, load balancer certificates, and core networking in cloud environments.
  • Cloud‑Native Development:
Experience developing cloud‑native applications on AWS, with a strong understanding of serverless architecture. Familiarity with Lambda, SQS, and Kafka for event‑driven workflows is a plus.
  • Platform Stewardship:
Experience stewarding vendor platforms, including plugin onboarding, licensing workflows, and integration lifecycle management.
  • Eventing & Observability:
Familiarity with event ingestion, transformation, log streaming, and event listeners.
  • Automation & Integration:
Experience building wrapper APIs to enrich and automate vendor platform capabilities.
  • Testing & Architecture:
Understanding of layered architecture, functional/system integration testing, and threat modeling.
  • CI/CD:
Hands‑on experience in a CI/CD environment and Dev Ops principles; familiarity with Git Hub Actions is a plus.
  • Collaboration:

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, agile environment.
  • Documentation:
Experience creating and maintaining clear internal and customer‑facing documentation for APIs, platform capabilities, and developer workflows.
