JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Director of the School of Business serves as the head of the University's business professional preparation unit and performs all duties typically assigned to a department chair per collective bargaining agreements and/or University policies and procedures, and other administrative duties relevant to the assignment. He/she reports to the Dean of the Business and Engineering Technology and is responsible for the leadership and daily management of all aspects of the School including accreditation;

development of new and innovative programs; partnership development; student admission, retention, and completion; faculty recruitment, development, and promotion and tenure progression; advancement/fundraising; internal and external representation and communication; and all other aspects of the School per all applicable national and/or state standards, the School By-Laws, the University Faculty Senate Constitution, and Collective Bargaining Agreements with faculty and staff.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership
    • The Director, working closely with the Dean provides leadership and vision for the academic unit. Implements the University and College missions within the School context and guides vision and direction for the School. On behalf of the Dean, represents the College and the University on matters related to Business education provided by the School to accrediting bodies and other interested entities.
    • Leads in the development of the School's programmatic offerings through assessing needs and recommending revisions in curricula, new degree programs, and other approaches to improving Business education. Prepares and recommends the School's course offerings to the Dean.
    • Leads and ensures compliance with all activities related to the School's achievement and maintenance of accreditation, accreditation‑related program reviews, accreditation visits, and University publications, and compiles reports as needed for applicable national, state, institutional accreditation, or other professional organization recognition. This includes leading the School of Business in assessment and continuous improvement efforts and reporting in support of the university, college, and the academic unit initiatives, including accreditation.
    • Manages School resources effectively and efficiently, recommending all expenditures from school budgetary allocation to support the School's mission and vision in accordance with all University policies and procedures, accreditation agency standards, and any other relevant requirements. Provides initial recommendations for new School budgets. Engages in fundraising and advancement activities to support the School of Business and the College of Business and Engineering Technology.

    staff, and student recruitment, retention, supervision, and development
    • Coordinates and supervises the orientation and the ongoing activities of faculty and staff in the School and in the recruitment and review of applicants for appointment to faculty and staff. Fosters staff development, encourages creativity, and high performance. Maintains a supportive environment.
    • Recommends faculty for appointment, promotion, tenure, and termination under the terms of the University's collective bargaining agreement and accreditation standards for faculty.
    • Recruits and recommends the need for part‑time faculty, assists in selecting and orienting part‑time faculty, and recommends the rehiring of part‑time faculty.
    • Supervises faculty, administrative, and hourly support staff of the School.
    • Assists in recruiting and retaining students. Coordinates academic advising, including acceptance of majors, fulfillment of degree requirements, and assessment of equivalency and transfer credits.
