GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The LPN's primary job function is to assist the RN in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care on a nursing unit according to unit policies and procedures. Assists the RN with implementation of care plans. Supports each strategic value by providing excellent care to those we serve. Performs surgical technician duties in the scrub role.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

* High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

* Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required

Licensure:

* Licensed to practice as an LPN in Ohio required

* IV required

* BLS within 90 days of hire required

* NRP within 90 days of hire required

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Assists in completion of the nursing assessment of patients and documents appropriately on patient record.

2. Assists with developing, evaluating and updating a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient.

3. Assists with the discharge planning process.

4. Provides, delegates, and coordinates patient care.

5. Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate.

6. Scrubs in on all types of surgical procedures.

7. Identifies patient needs/physician preferences for surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments, including updating physician preference lists.

8. Organizes activities to meet the surgery schedule.

9. Performs technical skills in accordance with policies and procedures.

10. Performs "on-call" duties as required.

11. Orients new employees.

12. Decontaminates instruments and equipment as indicated. Inspects and identifies instruments in need of repair.

13. Prioritizes workload to complete surgery schedule.

14. Assists staff members in locating instruments and equipment.

15. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment in the OR.

16. Contributes and fosters the team approach in all unit operations.

17. Maintains positive interactions with customers.

18. Assists with the deliveries and patient care duties.

19. Participates in hourly rounding and bedside shift report.

20. Answers call lights and responds to patient needs.

21. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy

22. Performs surgical technician duties in the scrub role.

23. Performs other duties as assigned.

24. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's

25. Performs infant security prevention strategies with each baby.
