Job SummarySMSI, LLC is seeking a Safeguards and Security Operations Consultant to assist with a project on‑site in Portsmouth, OH. The candidate will provide support to security operations and conduct surveys and assessments to ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) orders and national security objectives.
Responsibilities- Provide support to DOE and/or assigned federal, state, or local entity in Safeguards & Security operations and conduct surveys and assessments to ensure compliance with DOE orders and national security objectives.
- Execute planning, execution and reporting of comprehensive security assessments and/or surveys ensuring timely and quality work performance.
- Develop and contribute to appraisal reports, articulating strengths and weaknesses, making judgments that impact security policy, and communicating results orally and in writing to senior officials.
- Ensure protection of special nuclear materials, radiological, chemical and biological assets, classified information, government property, and personnel to identify vulnerabilities and areas of non‑compliance.
- Provide recommendations and authoritative advice to various levels of management on the development, operation and direction of security programs, as well as changes to policy and requirements.
- The project is estimated to include one week of prep work prior to travel, one week on site for the review, and one week to complete write‑ups of the review. One week has been added to the duration as contingency.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors and consultants on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Self‑starter with ability to work with limited oversight.
- Candidates must be able to work on‑site in Portsmouth, OH.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
- Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred but not required.
- An active or recently inactive DOE Q or DOD Top Secret clearance is a plus.
- Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of experience.
