Substitute Teacher
Portsmouth School Department is seeking substitute teachers for grades Pre K-12. Portsmouth School District has one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools. Substitute teachers are an important part of the PSD educational team, covering classes and providing instruction and supervision for students when their regular teacher is absent. As a substitute teacher, you are responsible for implementing lesson plans left by the teacher, reliably arriving on time to supervise and instruct the classes you are signed up to cover, following available lesson plans, attending to routine classroom tasks and established schedules, maintaining an orderly classroom environment conducive to student learning, and performing other duties as assigned.
Substitute teaching can be an ideal employment situation for those who enjoy working with children and adults in an educational setting and seek flexibility in work schedule and assignments. Substitute teachers must possess excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills; be professional in demeanor and appearance; be punctual, reliable, organized, and flexible; and be capable and interested in working in a variety of assignments and at different school locations on a regular basis.
Eligibility requirements include a valid teaching certificate or Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree from an accredited institution or a minimum of two years college completion on track to a four year degree (official transcripts should be uploaded to this application or delivered in person) and a current resume with three contact references (reference letters uploaded to School Spring application).
