Position & Location
Senior Mechanical Engineer – ESSM® Missile Launcher team. On-site in Portsmouth, RI.
What You Will Do- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Support the factory and suppliers with product integration.
- Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
- Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
- Degree in STEM and minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in leading small development efforts and teams with cost and schedule responsibility.
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance analysis, metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts).
- Experience with CAD modeling and engineering documentation practices.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance (Secret).
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Experience in specification, design, development, production, and testing of electronics systems.
- Knowledge of packaging electronic equipment for physical and environmental constraints.
- Experience with proposal cost and technical volumes, engineering basis of estimates (BOEs).
- Ability to support international travel (~30%) to customer sites or suppliers.
- Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
- Certifications in Earned Value Project Management.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a demonstrated ability to work in cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for technical, non‑technical, and management audiences.
Salary range: $86,800 - $165,200 USD.
