Senior Mechanical Engineer – Raytheon
We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to lead the design, integration, and production of critical defense systems in our Portsmouth, RI facility. Candidates must be U.S. citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Responsibilities- Develop innovative technical solutions throughout the product lifecycle, including proposal, advanced development, design, cooling, manufacturing, integration, and testing for radar and support equipment.
- Perform tolerance analyses to ensure design meets form, fit, and function requirements.
- Lead small cross‑functional teams on mechanical hardware design, ruggedized structures, interconnects, cooling, electronics packaging, tooling, and array integration.
- Provide support for product integration in domestic and international factories and supplier locations, assessing requirements compliance.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, external suppliers) to resolve technical challenges and develop design solutions.
- Manage tasks independently to meet schedule, budget, and technical goals.
- Participate in design reviews and conduct trade studies for informed engineering decisions.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers to contribute to team development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) – or advanced degree with equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical hardware design experience or 3 years with an advanced/production environment.
- Experience creating, reviewing, and interpreting technical documentation for hardware or tooling development.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design, drafting, and release of engineering drawings.
- Experience with tolerance analysis and geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Mechanical design experience in a production or advanced development environment.
- Experience with electronics packaging, interconnects, power distribution, cooling, RF, or related tooling.
- Knowledge of Military and/or Commercial specifications.
- Experience with CREO CAD or comparable solid modeling software and data management.
- Experience in cost and/or schedule reporting or proposal development.
- Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace hardware systems design.
U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance is mandatory.
LocationPortsmouth, Rhode Island – onsite position.
CompensationSalary Range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD per year (based on experience and qualifications). Eligible for incentive compensation programs if applicable.
