Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for Raytheon Hardware Mechanical Engineering (HWE) Team. Responsible for design, development, and production support of critical defense systems. Lead modeling, design changes, and release processes while mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, mission‑focused environment.
Responsibilities- Develop innovative technical solutions across the product lifecycle, including proposal, advanced development, design, cooling, manufacturing, integration, and testing of radars, support equipment, and electronics for military programs.
- Perform tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function meet design intent and use‑application requirements.
- Lead small teams utilizing strong mechanical hardware design experience in ruggedized structures, interconnects, cooling, electronics packaging, tooling, and array integration.
- Provide integration support and assess compliance in domestic and international factories and supplier locations.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, external suppliers) to resolve technical challenges and develop effective design solutions.
- Independently manage tasks and deliver on schedule, budget, and technical goals.
- Participate in design reviews, conduct trade studies, and support informed engineering decisions.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, contributing to team development and technical growth.
- Degree in STEM and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Experience creating, reviewing, and interpreting technical documentation for hardware or tooling products.
- Experience in mechanical design, advanced design development, manufacturing or tooling processes.
- Experience in development, creation, release, or updates of engineering drawings using a 3D CAD design tool.
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Strong ability to work effectively within cross‑functional teams.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD security clearance (existing clearance required).
- Proven mechanical design ability in a production or advanced development environment.
- Experience in design, fabrication, or integration of electronics packaging, electronic systems, interconnects, power distribution, cooling, RF, or tooling products.
- Technical data package creation, change notice processing, and communication of functional and performance requirements.
- Experience with CREO CAD design and documentation tools or similar 3D solid modeling software with configuration and data management.
- Experience with cost and/or schedule reporting or proposal development.
- Highly detail‑oriented with demonstrated ability to work within cross‑functional teams.
- Familiarity with military and/or commercial specifications and requirements.
- Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace hardware systems design, or related field.
U.S. citizenship is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (existing clearance required after day
1) is mandatory.
9/80 schedule (every other Friday off). Relocation assistance available.
