Senior Systems Safety Engineer

Job Overview

Senior System Safety Engineer – on‑site role with RTX (Raytheon Technology) for the System Safety / Human System Integration Department. The position is based in Woburn, MA and may also be located in Tewksbury, Marlborough, Andover or Portsmouth, RI. U.S. citizenship is required and an active DoD Secret clearance must be maintained after day 1.

• Develop and implement MIL‑STD‑882E‑compliant system safety programs and perform associated tasks, analyses, and planning.
• Conduct hazard and design analyses to ensure compliance with system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
• Collaborate with customer safety representatives and Safety Review Board authorities to clarify requirements and secure safety approvals.
• Manage System Safety Working Groups with Raytheon and customer representatives.
• Work across integrated product teams and engineering disciplines (Systems Engineering, Software/Firmware, Electrical, Hardware) to eliminate hazards or implement effective controls.
• Support safety efforts from program startup through production, demilitarization, and disposal phases.
• Brief safety considerations and program status during technical reviews and approval processes.
• Prepare internal and customer‑facing reports detailing system safety analyses and program status.

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering.
• Experience writing technical reports and presentations.

• Active and transferrable DoD security clearance.
• Experience developing and implementing MIL‑STD‑882E System Safety Program tasks (task series 100‑400) for both hardware and software.
• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs such as MIL‑STD‑882 / DO‑178.
• Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.

• Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD, with final offer based on experience, location, and qualifications.
