Principal Electrical Engineer

About the Role

The Undersea and Electronics Systems (UES) Department in Portsmouth, RI is seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience in analog, digital, mixed signal design, fiber optics, FPGAs, and software design, including embedded software and GUI development. The candidate must hold a current Secret clearance, be highly technical, work with minimal oversight, and manage projects.

• Design and develop Analog, Digital, Mixed Signal, fiber optics, FPGAs, and software solutions, including embedded software and GUI design.
• Define project goals, scope, and deliverables based on program requirements and schedules, and monitor progress to mitigate risks.
• Provide regular program status reviews, track, and report through Engineering and Program Leadership.
• Act as the primary point of contact for project updates and ensure clear communication with stakeholders.
• Leverage hardware engineering knowledge to support technical execution and performance achievements.
• Assist with cost estimating, management, and technical status for capital projects.

• Degree in a STEM field (bachelor’s or higher) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
• Expertise in Analog, Digital, Mixed Signal, Fiber optics, and signal processing using tools such as MATLAB.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance; current Secret clearance required.

• Experience with Naval Programs related to acoustics, torpedoes, mine warfare, submarines, and/or Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs).
• Participation in cross‑functional teams and production/test activities.
• Advanced engineering degree and proven ability to lead technical discussions to closure.
• Experience in proposal generation (cost and technical) and support of technical development for proposals.
• Process improvement experience (e.g., CORE/Six Sigma certification).
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Team collaboration, initiative, and ability to manage complex tasks across competing priorities.
• Experience in agile hardware and software development and management using SCRUM.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.
• Domestic travel support for program activities.
