Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer lead interested in ocean engineering. Our Portsmouth, RI team primarily supports programs in the naval undersea and naval surface domains, including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration.

What You Will Do
  • Your primary responsibilities will include being a team leader in overseeing technical work and ensuring project requirements are met with precision and accuracy.
  • You will act as a team leader by reviewing work, and contributing to the development of innovative procedures, processes, and standards to enhance team performance.
  • You will ensure systems are built, tested, and deployed seamlessly, while ensuring the team is meeting project objectives.
  • Every day will present unique challenges requiring teamwork, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.
  • Trusted technical expert and key leader, managing daily operations and ensuring team effectiveness.
  • Lead in overseeing technical work, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Exhibit the ability to overcome obstacles by proactively identifying potential roadblocks, negotiating changes to ensure project success, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive alignment and resolve conflicts.
  • Evaluate contracts, engineering strategies, and operational efficiencies to optimize spending, while identifying financial needs for projects or operations to ensure alignment with overall strategy, and addressing variances between actual and planned spending through corrective actions.
  • Travel, domestic, to support customer events, with an expected travel requirement not exceeding 15%.
What You Will Learn

After completion of comprehensive on-the-job training, the candidate will be a part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) activities across the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with underwater acoustics analysis, sensor systems, and/or naval system development.
  • Experience with integration, verification, and/or validation testing.
  • Experience with UUV development and/or test.
  • Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge as a subject matter expert in systems engineering or a closely related field, providing technical guidance and driving successful project outcomes.
  • Experience with identifying root causes of system failures through detailed diagnostics, implementing timely fixes to restore functionality, and develop preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
