Network Engineer, Principal Specialist (P3)
Location:
Portsmouth, Rhode Island – Must work onsite; up to 5–10% domestic travel.
Security Clearance:
Must hold an active U.S. DoD Secret clearance upon day 1; security clearance sponsorship available.
Job Summary:
Join Raytheon’s Network Engineering Team to maintain, configure, and support classified network infrastructure.
- Ensure smooth operation of voice and data networks.
- Plan, evaluate, coordinate, and execute installation/reconfiguration of network hardware and software.
- Develop expertise in switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors, and related technologies.
- Maintain network management software platforms.
- Propose network solutions that align with cost, redundancy, and uptime requirements.
- Prepare and maintain operational documentation, technical diagrams, and mandatory documentation.
- Monitor and analyze network performance for short- and long‑range planning.
- Coordinate third‑party maintenance and vendor support.
- Design network topologies, select hardware/software packages, and define hierarchical architecture.
- Collaborate with Program Engineers to resolve tactical network issues.
- Mentor, train, and share knowledge with the technical team.
- Work outside normal business hours as needed.
- University degree or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
- Knowledge of cabling and fiber standards.
- Must possess an active U.S. government‑issued Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship.
- Willingness to travel domestically.
- Experience with ACLs, security posture, and vendor best practices.
- Proficiency with Visio, IP telephony, NTP servers, Gem One, and Solar Winds.
- Experience with encryption device configuration.
- Customer service, oral and written communication skills.
- Certifications:
Security+ within 6 months; CCNA highly desired within a year. - Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
