This role is integral to managing and supervising marine projects, ensuring compliance with high standards and efficient completion of tasks.
The suitable candidate must have a background of working in the Portsmouth Dockyard and experience of working on Royal Navy vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and monitor employees' work, ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety procedures, and technical requirements in ship repair, fabrication, mechanical fitting, and pipe fitting works.
Quote, plan, and manage ship repair, marine, fabrication, and mechanical/pipe fitting projects while controlling costs and achieving deliverables.
Ensure staff compliance with company policies, including timekeeping, conduct, and technical training.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping across workshops, stores, vessels, vehicles, and on-site locations.
Support management in scheduling maintenance and repairs of company machinery, pipework systems, and ship repair equipment.
Work independently to plan and prioritise workload within set timescales.
Ensure compliance with internal and external emergency arrangements and enforce the correct use of required PPE.
Assist in tracking and controlling tools and equipment to prevent loss or theft, reporting any incidents promptly.
Enforce safety regulations, maintain accurate records, and support procurement processes.
Remain available for emergency or responsive ship repair works and undertake on-call duties as needed.
Complete written reports on project progress, quality, and completion.
Advise management promptly of potential workforce dissatisfaction.
Job Requirements:
Experience in ship repair with a mechanical/pipe fitting background
Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective liaison with staff, managers, and suppliers.
Willingness and ability to travel for business needs, including shipyard and port facilities.
Eligibility for UK Security Clearance
Full UK driving licence.
Proficient in interpreting ship repair drawings, technical schematics, pipework diagrams, fabrication manuals, and associated specifications.
Proven experience supervising personnel and monitoring quality and productivity in ship repair, fabrication, mechanical, and pipe fitting disciplines.
Excellent organisational and planning skills with a strong team player ethos and the ability to motivate staff.
Terms:
£32/h Umb co (PAYE also available)
40 hour standard week but due to project demand you can expect to regularly work between hours per week
