Position: Seasonal Environmental Educator – Paradise Creek Nature Park (FALL)

Hiring For The Fall 2026 Season (August 24th – November 24th)

Non‑profit Elizabeth River Project is looking for seasonal educators to help teach fall programming at Paradise Creek Nature Park, a 40‑acre urban park in Portsmouth, VA and at Camp E.W. Young, a Norfolk Public School facility located in Chesapeake, VA.

Be a part of educating elementary, middle and high school students participating in outdoor field investigations with hands‑on activities. Work with a team while teaching Elizabeth River education, sea‑level rise, ecology, native plants and animals, water quality testing and more. Learn in‑depth about Elizabeth River environmental challenges and solutions while fostering a new generation of river stewards throughout its restoration.

Requirements
  • This position does not require teaching or science experience – diverse backgrounds are welcome! Although a science, recreation, or teaching background is a plus.
  • Experience working with youth preferred, but not required.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation.
  • Must be able to physically stand for long time periods, and walk distances over 3‑miles while carrying field trip supplies.
  • First aid/CPR and kayaking experiences preferred, but not required.
  • We are looking for self‑motivated, energetic, people‑oriented candidates with strong communication skills, proven reliability, punctual and professional attitudes. Great opportunity to serve as a mentor for young environmental stewards.
  • Must be enthusiastic about working outdoors.

Upcoming season is August 24 to November 24, 2026. Up to 25 hours per week, weather depending. Typical hours are anywhere between 8:00am–2:00pm Monday–Friday (depending on program times) with occasional evening and weekend hours. Candidates can expect to work up to 5 hours a day, Monday‑Friday. Candidate with flexible availability is preferred. Background check will be required. Must have reliable transportation.

This seasonal, outdoor position pays $15/hour.
