POSITION TITLE: ROTC TEACHER REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL

OVER-TIME STATUS: EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 712(Based on MIP)

JOB SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the Army JROTC curriculum. The instructor provides military-oriented leadership education, develops cadet leadership skills, promotes citizenship and personal responsibility, and supports the overall objectives of the Army JROTC program and the school district.

• Retired or retiring United States Army commissioned officer or warrant officer who has completed at least 20 years of active federal service and is eligible to receive retired pay, or who is retiring under an authorized early retirement program with the required years of service.
• Possesses documentation confirming retirement status and eligibility for retired pay through the appropriate Army personnel/retirement authority.
• Must be retired from active Army service or otherwise meet the U.S. Army JROTC eligibility requirements for employment as a Senior Army Instructor.
• Bachelor's degree preferred/required in accordance with applicable Army JROTC and school district requirements.
• Possesses a competitive military record and favorable personnel status.
• Physically qualified in accordance with applicable U.S. Army JROTC instructor standards, including current Army JROTC personal appearance and grooming requirements.

• Retired or retiring United States Army warrant officer, noncommissioned officer (NCO), or senior noncommissioned officer who has completed at least 20 years of active federal service and is eligible to receive retired pay, or who meets the requirements of an authorized early retirement program.
• Possesses documentation confirming retirement status and eligibility for retired pay through the appropriate Army personnel/retirement authority.
• Must be retired from active Army service or otherwise meet the U.S. Army JROTC eligibility requirements for employment as an Army Instructor.
• High school graduate. Associate degree preferred or must meet applicable U.S. Army JROTC educational requirements within the timeframe established by the program and school district.
• Minimum GT score of 100 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), or as otherwise required by current U.S. Army JROTC regulations. Applicants currently serving on active duty should consider obtaining or verifying their GT score prior to separation or retirement if the score is below the required minimum.
• Possesses a competitive military record and favorable personnel status.
• Physically qualified in accordance with applicable U.S. Army JROTC instructor standards, including current Army JROTC personal appearance and grooming requirements.

• Instructs cadets in the Army JROTC curriculum during the school year.
• Develops short- and long-range instructional plans to achieve Army JROTC curriculum goals; gathers appropriate instructional materials; establishes clear learning objectives; and prepares effective lesson plans.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning, leadership development, teamwork, discipline, and the personal growth of cadets.
• Evaluates cadet progress and provides appropriate counseling, guidance, and feedback regarding performance and participation in the JROTC program.
• Motivates and encourages cadets to develop the leadership skills, attitudes, knowledge, self-discipline, and character necessary to become responsible and productive citizens.
• Teaches and reinforces Army JROTC principles, including leadership, citizenship, personal responsibility, physical fitness, teamwork, and service to others.
• Conducts and/or supervises training activities, field training, leadership laboratories, competitions, community service activities, and authorized JROTC camps or other program activities.
• Monitors cadet movement and activities to ensure a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
• Organizes, supervises, and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets, including color guard, drill and ceremony teams, physical fitness activities, academic teams, marksmanship programs…
