Position: CHEMIST with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will plan and conduct chemical and instrumental studies which may include application of new techniques and development of new methods to analyze a variety of industrial material samples.
* You will establish and maintain an individual Development Plan (IDP) and training plan to maintain and build knowledge and skills.
* You will assist in quality assurance audits and surveillances.

* Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Monitoring laboratory accreditation processes to update local procedures for maintaining accreditation using Military and Federal Standards and specifications for the chemical testing required in the shipyard.
* Coordinating work efforts with other organizations and peer lab managers to maintain positive relationships that ensure the laboratory maintains accreditation requirements.
* Troubleshooting problems with analytical instruments and their accessories to include but not limited to: (Gas Chromatography with Flame Ionization Detection (FID), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Ion Chromatography (IC) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy.
* Developing processes in response to emerging scientific or engineering system requirements.
* Overseeing the development, execution, and documentation of materials testing procedures, processes, and methodology to maintain laboratory quality standards.
* Compiling written reports to provide status updates on chemical analysis of samples or testing results. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:

Applicants must possess Basic Requirements:
* Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR
* Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
