Lead Engineering Technician

You will serve as a LEAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Engineering and Planning Department (C200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

• You will administer and provide technical guidance for Project Lead Engineering duties, conduct final reviews, and provide leadership to engineers and technicians in support of shipyard waterfront availabilities.
• You will assume overall responsibility and authority for technical Lead Field Engineering support for project waterfront availabilities on assigned ship classes.
• You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for designated Hull/Structural (Code 250) or Electrical (Code 270) systems, serving as a primary mentor to lower-level engineers and the production workforce regarding assigned projects.
• You will lead, coach, mentor, and develop staff, which includes observing assigned team members, assessing training needs, and ensuring core competency gaps are identified and decreased.
• You will review, progress, and assure the timely completion of non-nuclear interface work completed by the team, obtaining required concurrences and technical resolutions for nuclear interface problems.
• You will generate reports for senior leadership.
• You will direct the development and application of policies, techniques, and procedures required for the accomplishment of Lead Engineering work efforts relative to the work assigned.
• You will apply a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to identify, assess, analyze, and improve team effectiveness, efficiency, and work products.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience managing, coordinating, reviewing, and providing expert technical/engineering guidance and advice for complex maintenance, repair, construction, and overhaul of a variety of naval vessel classes of conventional and nuclear ships and ability to determine cost and availability of material using various data bases along with ordering requirements.
