Position: MECHANICAL ENGINEER with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will be assigned the most complex mechanical engineering projects on Weight Handling Equipment which include various dock cranes, bridge cranes and associated supporting systems and structures.
* You will conduct and oversee engineering design for various types of mechanical systems, satisfy requirements relating to physical arrangement, operational characteristics, required materials, dimensions and accessibility for repair and maintenance.
* You will draft technical portions of specifications for various mechanical equipment and systems using standard guide specifications, revising and rewriting data as required to assure accuracy.
* You will conduct field investigations to determine the scope of reported mechanical malfunctions, make design or procedural change to correct any deficiencies.
* You will define project scope and prepare engineering cost estimates for various mechanical projects to secure approval and funding.
* You will review and recommend approval of mechanical engineering designs prepared by architects and engineering firms under contract to the Government.
* You will review data on nuclear/non-nuclear weightlifting/handling equipment to recommend design or process changes and modifications to ensure optimum operational readiness is maintained. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Field inspections are made of various facilities including dock cranes, stiff leg derrick, enclosure cranes, industrial plants, and drydocks which requires walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling and reaching. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Experience applying principles, methods, tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and managing contracting and strategy.
* Experience planning projects and resources, including technical performance, budgeting, and adherence to contracting requirements.
* Experience in applying the results of engineering and business research to secure existing products or services or to lead to the development of new products or services.
* Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with key individuals or groups, both internal to the Government and external organizations.
