Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU - Nights

Intensive Care Unit consists of a 7‑bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit with private rooms equipped for ECG, dialysis, SPO2 and hemodynamic pressure monitoring. Eagle/MRICU Telemedicine Intensivist services are available 24/7. Skill mix includes RNs and Patient Care Technicians.

There is one full‑time Nurse Director and one Clinical Coordinator managing both the Intensive Care Unit and the Acute Care Unit. Staffing is based on acuity and volume and adjusted per shift.

Clinical Nurse I Responsibilities
  • Assists the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Clinical Nurse II Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population.
  • Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patients and families.
  • Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Clinical Nurse III Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population.
  • Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Licensure, Certification, and Registration Requirements

Hire:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state.

Continued Employment:
Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Experience
  • Clin I:
    No specified experience.
  • Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience.
  • Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience.

Preferred experience includes: Clin I – experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in an acute care setting; Clin II/III – academic health care experience and experience with a similar patient population.

Education / Training
  • Required:

    Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state Board of Nursing. RNs without a Bachelor’s degree must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years, unless grandfathered.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program; Clin III – certification in a specialty area.
Additional Requirements
  • Follow documented physician or licensed independent provider orders.
  • Practice within Virginia state regulations and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing.
  • Work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays; individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
  • Physical requirements include lifting 20–50 lbs, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, and reaching; mental/sensory and emotional requirements include strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, oral and written communication, logical thinking, and the ability to handle a fast‑paced, noisy environment with multiple priorities.
