Position:
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
. This role is a mobile/field position with 100% travel and on-site service at customer locations. A service truck and gas card are provided.
Travel:
Yes, 100% of the time, but no overnights.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair vehicle systems and components, including electrical, air conditioning, and other drivetrain elements.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges).
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess alternatives with sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and maintain the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Collaborate with clients to assess needs and provide information, assistance, and problem resolution.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocation effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload RO details, parts used, and findings using a company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and operate within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience.
- Alternative combinations allowed: any level degree/certification beyond HS in a related discipline; or 5 years of related experience.
- Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Comply with DOT/FMCSA regulations.
- Pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment; a valid DOT medical card may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical if it has more than 4 months remaining.
- Minimum age 21 due to interstate commerce regulations; valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
