Overview
The Receiving and Inventory Manager at Shabby Fabrics is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the precise intake, quality control, and strategic storage of all fabrics and raw materials. As the primary gatekeeper of the supply chain, this "working manager" must demonstrate exceptional physical strength, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to lead a dedicated team in a fast-paced e-commerce and manufacturing environment.
This position is based in our Post Falls, Idaho, facility and reports to the General Manager.
- Logistics and Dock Operations: Oversee and manage the daily operations of the receiving dock, ensuring the safe and efficient unloading of all inbound freight from LTL carriers, parcel services, and international containers.
- Transportation Coordination: Serve as the primary onsite contact for transportation companies, scheduling inbound deliveries and updating truck logs to prevent dock congestion.
- Physical Handling: Physically assist in the "literal heavy lifting" of fabric bolts and pallets, regularly maneuvering items weighing between 50 and 75 lbs unassisted.
- Equipment Management: Operate and maintain material handling equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and pallet jacks, ensuring all team members are trained and certified.
- Inventory Accuracy: Execute a "zero-defect" receiving process by verifying all incoming goods against physical packing slips and digital Purchase Orders (POs) with 100% accuracy.
- Quality and Traceability: Identify and document subtle variances in textile dye lots and print runs, ensuring color consistency for our quilting kits and retail customers.
- Inventory System Use: Utilize handheld barcode scanners and WMS software to record real-time inventory movements, adjustments, and internal transfers.
- Inventory Control: Implement and oversee a rigorous cycle counting program and annual physical audits to minimize inventory discrepancies and obsolete stock.
- Non-conforming Materials: Partner with the Manufacturing and Quality Assurance departments to quarantine or disposition non-conforming materials.
- Leadership and Personnel Development: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Inventory Receiving Associates across day and evening shifts, fostering a "drama-free" and collaborative work culture.
- Staffing and Planning: Establish daily priorities and coordinate staffing levels to meet production and fulfillment demands.
- SOPs: Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for fabric handling, storage, and safety.
- People & Values: Provide regular coaching and performance feedback, upholding the organization’s core values of integrity, hard work, and compassion.
- Facility and Safety Stewardship: Optimize warehouse layout and material flow to maximize space utilization and maintain 5S organization standards.
- Work Environment: Maintain a pristine and safe work environment, ensuring that aisles remain clear and that materials are stored in stable, secure tiers.
- Safety Compliance: Monitor compliance with all federal and state safety regulations, including OSHA standards for rack capacity and equipment maintenance.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in warehouse management, inventory control, or logistics, preferably in a manufacturing or high-SKU retail environment.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a small team of diverse individuals.
- Physical Capability: Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs) and stand for extended periods on concrete surfaces.
- Technical Literacy: Proficient in ERP/WMS systems (Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a college degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business is preferred.
- Certification: Valid Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Detail Orientation: Extreme attention to detail, particularly with alphanumeric SKUs and visual color matching.
- Salary: Competitive annual salary commensurate with experience in the North Idaho market.
- Benefits: Comprehensive package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Retirement: 401K plan with company matching contributions.
- Paid Time Off: Competitive PTO policy and paid holidays.
- Culture: A supportive, family-oriented work environment with employee discounts on Shabby Fabrics products.
