  • 1st – Monday–Thursday from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • 2nd – Monday–Thursday from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM

Compensation: $23.90 per hour plus $2.00 per hour shift differential for 2nd Shift

Job Summary

The Fabricator responds in a positive fashion to the direction of a department supervisor, lead person and/or cell leader, setting up and operating production machines. The incumbent also loads and unloads material, ensuring piece/part integrity. All department equipment and machinery need to be operated in a safe and efficient manner. The Fabricator completes all types of shop forms including move tags, inspection verification tags, employee volume control sheets, and employee communication sheets.

This position requires use of safety guarding apparel including safety glasses, metatarsal boots, and hearing protection. The Fabricator may be called upon to operate a forklift provided they are qualified and certified under Valmont's training program.

Basic Qualifications
  • A strong working knowledge of all measurements found on a tape measure
  • The ability to stand and move about the shop floor for at least half of the shift for the entire shift
  • The ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds frequently throughout the shift
  • The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs
  • The ability to use e-mail

Preferred Qualifications
  • An educational level at or above a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Proficiently use thread gauges, micrometers, protractors and dial calipers
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints or process sheets in a professional environment
  • Experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
  • Basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
  • Able to communicate orally and in writing in English
  • Able to comprehend simple blueprints
  • Able to use a computer to enter production data and perform time keeping functions
Decision Making

This job requires the employee to make decisions that affect the quality of the products they are manipulating. These are decisions that affect the employee’s own work quality and output. The Fabricator should be knowledgeable in the operations of machines required by this job classification and be able to maintain them in good working condition (TPM). Must possess the ability to understand all gauging and checking fixtures used in checking the parts being produced by the machines involved in the classification.

Must be able to check the finished part to the blueprint and to the frequency rate of the work instruction. The employee must understand the processes and functions of the equipment to determine when changes need to be made in the routine tasks due to abnormal conditions. These abnormal conditions may be equipment or piece related. Able to use initiative in solving major problems within everyday activities.

Must have a good understanding of their own abilities and knowledge to determine when to seek help making decisions. Incumbent needs to recognize discrepancies and bring them to the attention of the appropriate personnel. Able to use one’s own initiative in solving minor problems in everyday activities.

Physical Effort

The Fabricator stands and moves about his or her station and in some cases throughout the shop environment. Bending, pivoting, reaching overhead and reaching outward are frequent physical movements that need to take place. The employee needs to be able to handle parts, tools, material and equipment which requires gripping, grasping, and bending of the wrist. Depending on the area where the fabricator is working this is done on a frequent to constant basis.
