Job Summary

The End Prep Operator is responsible for preparing tubes by removing excess burrs and ensuring product quality through visual inspection. The role involves deburring both the inner and outer diameters of tubes, operating handheld grinders and rotary files, ensuring tubes are straight before passing them to the next process, coordinating with inspectors and bundlers to manage tube flow, running bundles, and ensuring proper tube length for customer specifications.

The operator also maintains a clean work area, follows safety protocols, and performs basic machine operations, including running the crane and occasionally performing CIR pipe measurements. This entry‑level position requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to lift and handle materials effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a rotary file, bay flex grinder, and other tools to effectively deburr both the I.D. and O.D. ends of steel tubes, ensuring smooth and defect‑free finishes.
  • Visually inspect tubes for mill marks, straightness, dents, dings, and other visible defects, ensuring they meet quality standards before proceeding to the next stage.
  • Operate groover, straightener, and oiler machines to produce high‑quality tubing, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Roll tubes across a rack to the straightener, ensuring accurate alignment and smooth processing.
  • Measure tubes as necessary to ensure they meet required specifications, using tools such as tape measures or other equipment.
  • Adhere to all required safety protocols, wearing appropriate PPE and following safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members, bundlers, and inspectors to share information, address issues, and ensure efficient operation and quality control.
  • Assist with tube setups on the mill when changing tube sizes, ensuring smooth transitions and proper configurations.
  • Occasionally use a dial indicator to check tolerance levels and ensure pipe straightness and accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read and write legibly to maintain accurate documentation and communication.
  • Proficiency in reading a tape measure, including the ability to measure in fractions.
  • Experience operating air and electric‑powered hand tools, such as grinders or rotary files.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and maintain smooth operations.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods, approximately 95% of the time.
  • Capacity to remain alert and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong passion for quality, integrity, and the drive to excel and produce exceptional results.
  • Highly qualified candidates will also possess forklift operating ability.
