The Drop Installation Technician I performs the general labor associated with the installation of fiber optic drop facilities. Work is performed in accordance with state and local regulations in a safe manner. Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from Spokane, WA.
Responsibilities- Perform general construction labor.
- Assist with and perform the transportation of required construction equipment to and from the worksite.
- Assist with and perform the placement of new drop facilities.
- Install and/or set enclosures (buried and aerial) vaults, pedestals, and handholes.
- Mark/label fiber optic and/or copper facilities.
- Assist with fiber splicing and repairs.
- Perform landscape restoration after project completion.
- Service, clean, maintain, and repair equipment.
- Complete all related paperwork.
- Provide assistance to field services technicians as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.
- Ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures; kneel, dig, lift, and pull.
- Successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
- Successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- May require occasional travel.
- Willing to work overtime as needed; may be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
- Operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate must also be able to climb poles, ladders, towers or other structures. The associate is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
