St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, MD seeks a Kindergarten Teacher to begin August 19, 2026

The Lower School program rew’s Episcopal School uses a co-teacher model in Kindergarten. The Kindergarten Teachers are jointly responsible for curriculum implementation, parent and staff communications, and classroom supervision. The Kindergarten Teachers report to the Head of the Lower School. This is a salaried, benefits-eligible, full-time position for the 2026-27 school year beginning August 19, 2026. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Classroom Responsibilities
  • Foster and maintain a classroom culture that reflects the mission and values of the school.
  • Teach core subject areas, including language arts, handwriting, mathematics, social studies, and social-emotional learning, within a homeroom setting.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning objectives aligned with curriculum standards and school expectations.
  • Design and implement assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Evaluate student performance using both formal and informal measures and maintain organized documentation of student work.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, progress, and development.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents through conferences, written reports, and weekly classroom updates.
  • Support positive student behavior and cultivate academic growth, personal responsibility, and respect for individual differences.
  • Integrate appropriate instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Organize and supervise field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Create classroom displays and bulletin boards that highlight student learning and instructional goals.
  • Manage classroom materials and budget responsibly.
Grade Level, Division, and School-wide Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues in weekly planning meetings to design lessons, share resources, and coordinate materials.
  • Work with the grade-level team to develop curriculum and assessments.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly division meetings and monthly faculty meetings.
  • Assist with divisional assemblies, school events, and special programs (such as performances, Grandparents Day, and the Gala).
  • Participate in admissions activities, including meeting prospective families, screening applicants, and reviewing application materials.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in child development, instructional methods, educational technology, and subject‑area knowledge.
  • Perform assigned supervisory duties, such as lunch, recess, or carpool.
  • Attend school functions and events as requested.
  • Support and uphold the Episcopal identity and traditions of the school.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or a related field
  • Teaching experience in early childhood or elementary education
  • Certification in, or training with, the Orton‑Gillingham Multisensory Approach
  • Experience implementing the Bridges in Mathematics program
  • Knowledge of Reciprocal Teaching and The Writing Revolution
