Who we are: The German International School Washington D.C. is a leading international school in the Washington DC metro area. For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma and a German International Abitur (DIA).

General Information- Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8am - 5pm, with 1-hour lunch. Three or four Saturdays per year. - Pay Range: $30.58 – $40.91/hour
- Assist the Facilities Engineer and Facilities Manager in maintaining building internal systems and equipment.
- Assist in the maintenance and proper functioning of all electrical and mechanical systems, heating and cooling systems, roofing and irrigation systems throughout the buildings and grounds.
- Perform plumbing tasks, install appropriate pipes, valves, sinks, steam traps, etc.
- Repair facilities: lights, doors, bathrooms, etc.
- Replace equipment such as motors, switches, fans, transformers, valves, filters, heaters, etc.
- Assist with construction tasks such as storage rooms, cabinets, drywall repair, etc.
- Supervise outside vendors/contractors for campus work.
- Report technical problems and proposed solutions to Facilities Engineer and/or Facilities Manager daily.
- Maintain safety requirements and HVAC oversight.
- Complete preventive maintenance program established by Facilities Engineer/Facilities Manager.
- Assist with snow removal and weather response.
- Maintain licensing and carry a two‑way radio at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Hold a current Fourth‑ or Third‑Class Stationary Engineer license in the state of Maryland, or hold a current Stationary Engineer license in the District of Columbia or Virginia with willingness to obtain Maryland licensure.
- Proficient in using Tridium Niagara digital controls and HVAC BAS systems.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with hot water boilers, centrifugal & air‑cooled chillers, FCUs, and related equipment.
- Trade skills or handyman experience in HVAC motors, electrical appliances, wiring, plumbing, welding, drywall, painting, etc.
- Proficient in computer applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Proficient in English, with strong speaking, writing, and reading skills.
- Self‑proficient in managing multiple tasks and issues simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience in a school setting preferred but not required.
- Authorization to work in the US.
