Electrical Estimator

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements and preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical construction and installation projects. This individual will analyze RFQs, drawings, and specifications, and work closely with Project Managers, Foremen, clients, and vendors to ensure quotes are completed thoroughly and submitted on time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyze electrical drawings, specifications, and RFQs to fully understand project scope
  • Identify and quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs
  • Develop detailed electrical estimates, including conduit, wiring, controls, panels, and terminations
  • Prepare labor estimates based on NEC, manpower productivity rates, and site conditions
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing
  • Evaluate vendor bids and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
  • Use estimating software and tools to develop and present detailed cost proposals
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and stakeholders to clarify scope and budget
  • Track actual project costs for use in future estimates and job cost analysis

Qualifications include:

  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards
  • Proficiency in mathematics, data analysis, and cost estimation methods
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, plans, and technical documents
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • 5–7 years of field experience in commercial or industrial electrical work
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating
  • Experience with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and CAD tools
  • College education not required—technical training or apprenticeships a plus
