Position: Special Education Paraprofessionals - 2026-2027 School Year
Special Education Paraprofessionals
Pottsgrove School District has job openings for the school year at all of its school buildings for Special Education Paraprofessionals. Special education paraprofessionals provide instructional and non-instructional supports and services for students in an educational and work settings. A special education paraprofessional/personal care assistant is a person who works with one or more students with disabilities under the direction of a teacher or certified professional.
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, adaptive/functional, and physical support to students to ensure they become proficient in all endeavors. Deliver academic and physical assistance under the guidance of the teacher in a professional, and diplomatic manner that complies with all district confidentiality, instructional, and professionalism requirements.
Reports To And Is Evaluated By:
Building Principal, Supervisor Of Special Education, And/Or Coordinator Of Special Services.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:Protect the confidentiality of all pupil information in accordance with district policy.Assist students with classroom assignments, tests, and activities, ensuring they understand all materials provided by the teacher.Implement positive behavior support plans and monitor student progress to ensure compliance with discipline policies as directed by the supervising teacher.Available to support the Reflection Room by implementing restorative behavior interventions and data collection as designed by the District-Wide Floating Registered Behavior Technician.Tutor individuals or small groups of children utilizing materials and approaches designed by the classroom teacher.Assist the teacher with small group instruction and provide coursework assistance to other students in the classroom as needed.Collect progress monitoring and other data on students under the direction of the special education or general education teacher.Assist children with self-help/functional adaptive skill activities such as feeding, toileting, and dressing as needed.Assist the teacher with evaluating and reinforcing pupil lessons and mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives.Assist student(s) with organization of workspace, assignments, and recording homework.Provides job coach support and input to students in vocational/work environments within the school and community settings under the support and direction of the special education teacher and/or transition Coordinator.Provides direct input and feedback to students on their performance within the work/job settings.Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment while ensuring all procedures are followed with fidelity to help students return to their classrooms.Prepare instructional materials, including flash cards, games, and learning centers as assigned.Prepare materials for extra study and review.Document and report relevant information regarding student progress, behavioral changes, or physical needs to the teacher.Observe student behaviors and assist in correcting minor issues, alerting the teacher of serious issues.Assist in developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment to encourage positive behavior from students.Collaborate and provide support for students in general education classrooms.Provide supervision and continue classroom activities in the absence of the teacher.Supervise students during morning/afternoon duties,field trips, assemblies, lunch, and recess.Escort pupils to and from bus/van, gym class, library, and the nurse's office.Perform clerical duties including copying, filing, computer input, progress monitoring data entry, and answering phones.Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, and in-service programs.Participate in or provide input to the IEP or 504 team if/when requested by the LEA.Use of restraint as a last resort to support student de-escalation may be required based on assignment and the individual employee's restraint training/certification.Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher, Supervisor Of Special Education or Building Principal.Qualifications:
High School diploma required. Associates Degree preferred.Minimum of 48 or more undergraduate credits or a Credential of Competency via PDE/PaTTAn educational obligation required.Must be "Highly Qualified" per the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.Two (2) years experience with children preferred.Must complete required twenty hours of special education Professional Development training hours and submit these to the pupil services department each year.Locations - openings at all buildings:
