SUMMARY
The Tool & Die Maker is a skilled technical professional responsible for designing, building, and maintaining tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in production. This role works with a variety of materials, including metals and plastics, and uses computer-aided design (CAD) software and a variety of manually operated as well as computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to ensure precision, efficiency, and accuracy throughout the manufacturing process.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of machining equipment and measuring instruments, including the ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances for machine tool setup.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, customer-provided part drawings, manual specifications, and sample parts to determine required dimensions, tolerances, operational sequences, and setup needs.
- Support manufacturing and engineering teams by producing tooling, fixtures, and automated equipment on time and printing in accordance with engineering drawings.
- Safely operate tool room equipment such as lathes, surface grinders, and milling machines to produce parts that meet specification requirements.
- Demonstrate proper use of essential hand tools and measurement equipment.
- Convert raw materials into finished parts and products.
- Inspect tools and parts for defects to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain toolroom supplies and equipment by assessing repairs, identifying needed parts, including using third-party suppliers when necessary, and reporting findings to the supervisor.
- Perform job duties to meet quality, cost, and on-time delivery goals.
- Participate in Kaizen, Continuous Improvement, and Sustainability (CIS) initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and modify tools and dies, promote a safe work environment, and support ongoing process improvements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area by performing regular housekeeping, disposing of waste properly, and reporting hazards.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and the company.
This role does not include direct supervisory responsibility for other employees, however, it provides opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the organization.

EDUCATION- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent (e.g., vocational training) is required.
- 1+ years of hands‑on experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, indicators, height gauges, gauge pins, and optical comparators.
- Experience in aerospace, military/defense, cable assembly, or make‑to‑order manufacturing environments preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Applies algebraic and geometric formulas, along with standard tool engineering data, to determine and develop tool configurations.
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite and SharePoint is preferred.
- Proficiency in operating machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong understanding and ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and CAD drawings.
- Ability to work independently and with a team to meet production goals.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to work overtime as needed to support business needs.
As part of their job duties, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to reach, stretch, push, pull, crouch, stoop, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
