Overview
We are looking for a Structural Steel Material & Production Coordinator to support fabrication operations from detailing through production. This role focuses on preparing material orders, verifying production files, and coordinating workflow between detailing, purchasing, and the shop. The position supports a structural steel contractor working across commercial, industrial, and residential projects. This is a critical, detail-driven role where accuracy and execution directly impact production efficiency, cost control, and project timelines.
Responsibilities- Prepare material orders using shop drawings and bills of material
- Solicit vendor pricing, evaluate quotes, and issue purchase orders
- Track material deliveries to ensure alignment with production schedules
- Review and verify production files, including .nc1 files and CAD drawings, prior to release
- Perform plate and angle nesting to maximize material yield and efficiency
- Maintain accurate tracking of stock materials and inventory levels
- Create and manage fabrication checklists for beams, columns, and components
- Organize and prepare digital production files for shop equipment and processing
- Coordinate with project managers, detailers, and shop personnel to maintain workflow continuity
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in drawings, materials, or production data before fabrication
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, purchasing, or production coordination
- Strong understanding of shop drawings, erection drawings, and steel fabrication processes
- Experience with material takeoffs, bills of material, and vendor sourcing
- Familiarity with CNC/beam processing files (.nc1) and fabrication workflows
- Experience with plate nesting software (Pro Nest or similar preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets for tracking, nesting, and data management
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors before impacting production
- Excellent organizational and communication skills in a fast-paced environment
