Mission Statement
Pottstown Beacon of Hope’s mission is based on hope, love, and grace and a willingness to come alongside Pottstown residents experiencing homelessness, by providing year‑round emergency facility and working together towards creating a better community for all.
Position Summary
To provide dynamic leadership and direction focused on implementing the organization’s strategic goals and objectives, including:
- Lead development and fundraising to ensure continuous growth in the organization’s donor base comprised of individuals, churches, and businesses to meet financial and service goals.
- Serve as an ambassador of Pottstown Beacon of Hope’s mission through networking, volunteer opportunities, and community presentations to build relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., donors, business supporters, mentors, grantors).
- Provide staff leadership to develop and retain talent to meet client service needs.

- Support board development and strategic planning to enable effective governance and continued growth, in collaboration with the Board Chair and Governance Committee.
- Oversee program execution and client services to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Development and Fundraising (40 - 50%)
- Develop, oversee, and implement an annual fundraising work plan.
- Build and nurture relationships with donors through personal engagement and communication.
- Oversee Board engagement in fundraising through the Development Committee.
- Oversee the grant writing process and timely submission of proposals.
- Serve as an ambassador of the mission through community networking and presentations.
- Oversee the organization’s public relations, communications, and social media.
- Stay informed on trends in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and homelessness to guide continuous improvement.
- Oversee human resources in compliance with policies and regulations.
- Directly manage and coach key leadership staff:
Office Manager, Development Director, and Program Directors. - Oversee annual performance reviews and compensation decisions.
- Lead monthly all-staff, management, and development meetings.
- Foster a positive, professional, and mission‑aligned workplace culture.
Board Development and Strategic Planning (10 - 15%)
- Provide timely communication and support to enable Board governance.
- Act as liaison between the Board and staff.
- Support Board committees directly or through appropriate staff designees.
- Partner with the Board on strategic planning and implementation.
- Work closely with the Board President to promote effective Board engagement and governance.
Program Oversight (10%)
- Provide visionary oversight of program development and execution.
- Maintain and expand services aligned with strategic goals.
- Monitor and meet annual program goals and objectives.
- Oversee program evaluation for quality and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Program Directors to troubleshoot and improve service delivery.
- Collaborate with the Finance Committee to develop and manage the budget.
- Ensure financial accountability and stewardship of resources.
- Provide transparent financial reporting to the Board and Auditor.
- Implement and uphold the financial protocols outlined in the organization’s Accounting Manual.
Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Experience overseeing operating budget in excess of $4M.
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in nonprofit management.
- At least 5 years of experience in fundraising and donor development.
- Knowledge of poverty and homelessness issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High personal, financial, and ethical standards.
- Committed to and able to articulate the mission of Pottstown Beacon of Hope in a spiritual context.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Primarily office‑based (travel between sites as needed).
- Regular verbal and written communication.
- Frequent use of desktop computer and keyboard.
- Occasional delivery of presentations in the community.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. for event setup or materials transport.
