Salary starts at $24.39/hour. This class is slated to start September 1, 2026.
Primary Purpose of PositionProtect the health and welfare of the public by defending the station against any act of radiological sabotage, attack, or theft of special nuclear material. Maintain a secure perimeter for site access and egress and employee, contractor and visitor entry. Perform search, patrol, and inspections in accordance with the Station Security Plan, procedures, and post orders.
Key Duties & Accountabilities- Maintain qualifications for position
- Conduct patrols and inspections
- Monitor access to security areas
- Perform search activities
- Respond to threats and contingency events
- Perform equipment testing
- Act as a member of an Armed Response Force to provide physical protection of Constellation nuclear clean energy centers and evaluate adversarial actions to prevent intrusion and sabotage
- Conduct armed stationary, foot and/or vehicle patrols (interior and/or exterior)
- Control access and/or egress of personnel, materials and vehicles
- Monitor Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), plant surveillance equipment and alarm systems
- Deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations
- Maintain and implement extensive NRC requirements and Federal/State Laws for site protection and protected area access control
- Participate in initial and annual formal training programs to complete class and field qualifications necessary to be an armed Nuclear Security Officer
- Responsible for accurate documentation and record keeping, as required by federal and corporate guidelines
- Maintain thorough knowledge of plant and plant systems to adequately initiate and maintain sites defensive strategy
- Perform all other job assignments and/or duties pursuant to company policy or as directed by management

Minimum Education RequiredHigh School/GED
Minimum Qualifications- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a High School diploma or GED
- Must be able to obtain and maintain nuclear unescorted access
- Must meet minimum state requirements to carry a firearm
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must have and maintain a REAL /or an is REAL in accordance with the REAL
- Must pass any State and Federal required training or other qualifications for licensing
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test with negative results (includes THC or marijuana)
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and educational verifications, and credit check
- Must be able to operate a radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors and surveillance equipment
- Must be able to successfully complete all training required for the position, including but not limited to a physical fitness test, firearms qualification, and nuclear site‑specific training and testing providing general knowledge of nuclear power generation science and principles
- Must be able to successfully pass the following in accordance with code of federal regulations and site training and qualification plan for armed nuclear security assignment:
Psychological assessment, as appropriate, and physical exams, including vision and hearing - Demonstrate an ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
- Ability to transit to work location and/or posts (Walk, Climb Stairs, Climb Ladder, Conduct Routine Rounds, etc.)
- Ability to access and egress Bullet Resistant Enclosure (BRE) Towers
- Ability to manually carry, lift, or handle gear
